The ADA Law

While the American's with Disabilities Act is actually pretty straight forward, there is still a lot of ms-information being circulated.

The ADA Home Page This U.S. Justice Department site is your starting point for the ADA.
Commonly asked questions about Service Animals in places of business. Here's a quick reference -- in plain English -- covering the most important provisions of the ADA
Guide to Disability Rights Laws Downloadable pdf documents, videos and other materials explaining various aspects of the ADA
Ten Small Business Mistakes Links to a thirteen minute video aimed at educating business owners.
Fair Housing Laws What you need to know when dealing with landlords, other public entities, HUD, etc.
Transportation Covers planes, trains and automobiles as well as boats, ferries, taxis, busses and, presumably, pogo sticks.
Health Care This should be one you need to refer to least ... but ... you never know.
ADA in a Nutshell The bare bones of what you need to know.
A Conversation with the ADA Here's the bottom line -- from the ADA hotline -- on the question of SD versus SDit.

These are only the highlights of the ADA. The ADA home page will offer you many, many more links to government agencies, the text of the relevant laws and Presidential proclamations and other resources. These are your rights; know your rights, enforce your rights, protect the rights of others.

Laws Elsewhere and In Addition

In addition to Federal Law (the ADA) many states (and some other countries) have laws protecting you and your SD.

Think Global, Check Local As well as links to state laws, read about Washington State's comprehensive protection for service animals (Layla's Law) and how this happened (and not by accident).
National Pet Laws Granted, legally SDs are not pets, but there are still state laws which apply to pets (and may or may not apply to SDs) and you can subscribe to state by state discussion lists on this site.
